Buckner Retirement Services continues to lead Texas long-term care providers by implementing this new resident-centered model. The Holly House and The Hawthorne House at Buckner Westminster Place in Longview are the first Green House homes in East Texas.

“Our Green Houses are the best thing we’ve ever done,” said Pearl Merritt, president of Buckner Retirement Services, a nonprofit agency that traces its roots to the mid-19th century. “They have exceeded our expectations in every respect.”

Buckner International was originally founded in Dallas in 1879 as Buckner Orphan’s Home to meet the needs of widows and orphans who were destitute, and was the first orphanage west of the Mississippi River.
