Providence Seward Mountain Haven opened Oct. 1, 2009, moving all elders from the legacy facility Providence Wesley Care Center. Providence Seward Mountain Haven is the first Green House home in Alaska. Elders have been moved from a traditional long-term care center into homes designed and built to de-institutionalize long-term care. PSMH has four homes with 10 bedrooms a piece, a large country-style kitchen, dining room and hearth. We provide all the medical care found in a traditional long-term care center in a home setting. In addition to the architectural differences, the staff has been educated to work in self-managed work teams that places elders at the center of the team as the most important decision maker.

Sponsoring Organization History
Founded in Montreal, Canada in 1843, the Sisters of Providence were well prepared for new challenges. Following their mission to minister to the needs of the poor, sick and unfortunate, they responded to communities throughout the Northwest United States. By 1900, they had established 29 hospitals, schools, orphanages, homes for the aged, and shelters for persons with mental health disorders. Within two years, they would respond to yet another need. This time, in Alaska. Today, the Sisters of Providence and Providence Health System in Alaska continue to meet the needs of Alaska’s growing communities. Providence Seward has the experience and facilities necessary to diagnose and treat a wide range of medical conditions, and their team of physicians, nurses and support staff provide compassionate, quality care to all patients. Every year brings new achievements and inspiring possibilities for the future.
