Description
In the initial phase of The Green House development project, two houses, licensed as skilled nursing facilities, were built adjacent to its 52-bed Alzheimer’s facility. These two Green House homes support persons with dementia and have a waiting. Our ultimate goal is to add more Green House homes.

Project News
The Green House homes have had excellent surveys, high family and Elder satisfactions scores, and a staff turnover of 10% or less for the 12-month period (ending November 2009).

Sponsoring Organization History
Baptist Retirement Community has grown from its beginning as a small hospital into a large continuum of care retirement campus.  Elsie Gayer, RN, founded the Center in 1951 when she opened a tuberculosis hospital built on the charitable contributions of several friends. The campus is comprised of a retirement living community made up of 140 two- and three-bedroom houses, 109 duplexes and 89 apartments and suites in a five-story high-rise building. Approximately 600 residents live on the 100-acre campus. Occupancy in the residential “village” averages 95% annually. The retirees are supported by a variety of multi-level services including long-term nursing and rehabilitation, home health and hospice, specialized dementia care, and the new Green House homes.

Sponsoring Organization Mission
