Designed for 10 Elders in need of 24-hour nursing care, the Vern & Lois Boersma Cottage includes a hearth room, open kitchen, farmhouse table, den, spa, and fenced patio/garden area, as well as 10 private bedrooms with private showers.
We have had wonderful media coverage, but the most satisfying was when we were chosen as a Finalist for the Innovation Michigan Award in the spring of 2007. Resthaven’s Green House home, the Vern & Lois Boersma Cottage, was selected as one of the 35 best innovative ideas. It was a special award, as it was the only innovation award that communicated an idea…the idea that a “nursing home” could nurture and grow people, just like plants are nurtured and grown in a greenhouse. Sponsoring Organization History
Formed as an alliance of churches in Holland, Resthaven celebrated its 65th Anniversary in 2010. Beginning with a rented home for widows of pastors, Resthaven now serves over 1,200 older adults each year by providing housing and health care at five different locations, and by providing in-home care throughout the Holland/Zeeland area. Resthaven is a community-owned non-profit mission to serve older adults. The Vern & Lois Boersma Cottage, our Green House home, opened in 2007 and has definitely been a success.
Sponsoring Organization Mission
